i went on a little excursion somewhere in an ulu part of johor with my family today. erm well, it is an excursion for my bro & i. cos my dad has been here a few times to get fresh live seafood where the fishermen bring in their catch for the day.

it was about an hour drive after crossing the customs. i was pretty much looking forward to it even as we drove along the narrow, bumpy, rocky & sandy pavement under the hot scorching sun. when we got there, it looked just like what i expected. an old & kinda-rundown hut by a kelong near the waters with many fishing boats!

oh well, we had to wait for fishermen to bring in their catch and to see what we wanted to get. it was a pretty long wait because they all came one after another on their boats. which we actually had to wait for them to park their boats, drag up their containers of fish/crabs/prawns and negotiate with the wholesaler. after which, we could then decide on our buys.

i was pretty amused & gave out bouts of shrieks as the stall people displayed or dished out the live catches, judging from the way the crabs "fought", fish slittering away & prawns jumping out of the display table. but look at this little 3 year old girl! she strokes the fish as though it is her pet. so much braver than me can! *pouts*

we then sat down in the kelong to eat some of the seafoood that my dad bought. prawns, crabs, fish & even a lobster! what a treat! unfortunately, i was kinda hungry that by the time i realised i forgot to take pics, we've already finished the food. heh. besides, my dad bought quite a lot of stuff, decided that he'll give away half of his buys. some to both my grandparents and his friends too. but but but, there's still a lot for home!
as i thought about it, sometimes being out in airconditioned areas, prestigious places, nicely-decorated venues and dining in some fancy restaurants, this can't really be compared to them. no doubt that it is a rather old, dusty & rundown place, but its down-to-earth atmosphere just makes me take back a relaxed mind & a refreshed spirit. i don't mind coming back again! :)
