we began on the theme of animals at the beginning of this month. after some thoughts and discussions, my colleagues of the K2 class decide to combine one of this week's project with my class. hence we came up with a great big idea of an animal food party.
in this animal food party, children are required to bring a toy animal/picture of an animal and bring the food that it eats. but they would have to bear in mind that they need to bring food that are edible, because we will cook up everything they have brought and have those for our lunch. the teachers decided to also add in some other ingredients such as staples like macaroni and bread. which we would then just supplement with whatever ingredients the children would bring.
so today was a big scale project. we started preparing since 930am and finally got down to having lunch at 1230pm. we practically cooked, prepared, cut, sliced and many many more. there was sausage, lettuce heads, carrots, bread, macaroni, corn, cake, cheese, bananas, apples and raisins. upon further discussion, we teachers came up with the menu. but because we had a lot of ingredients, we concluded that we would prepare our own lunch and afternoon tea, which is after our nap time.
these were what we had.
lunch:
pizza bread, macaroni & cheese
afternoon tea:
salad, banana toast/sandwich, cake
after all that was done, we had a mini entertainment too. because my class focused on learning about sea creatures, my chinese teacher bought 2 live crabs this morning, 1 female & 1 male. we set up a place so that we could observe the crabs. we cut off the strings attached to their pincers and tried to provoke the crabs so that we could see how they move sideways and how powerful their pincers were.
the children were super excited and they shrieked & screamed each time the crabs tried to climb out of the place we kept them in. they laughed and they grinned. until they witnessed how the male crab PULLED OUT the left pincer of the female crab. we were pretty sure that we heard gasps of horror! :)
at the end of the day, the 4 teachers of both classes concluded that this was indeed a terribly terribly tiring day if we should compare to outdoor field trips or just simply routine days of lessons. but we were certainly glad that we completed a major project with so many food items which needed much preparations. it was certainly a long day! :)
