well as some of you may know, i got involved in a car accident yesterday night. it was raining very heavily and visibility was low. as i drove out from my home into this straight road, a car crashed into my right side doors when i was changing to the right lane. remembering that when i checked the mirrors, his car was still quite a distance away. but both of the right doors of my dad's car was pretty disfigured and i couldn't get out of the driver's door. had to come out from the left side. the other car's left front was badly damaged and the car landed sitting on the center divider of the road. i sprained my neck and the other person injured his right leg but no major injuries though.
i was in a total state of shock. the fear i felt then overwhelmed me that i just started crying as i searched the entire car for my handphone. the impact was quite great so everything in the car flew all over inside. helplessness is really a horrible feeling. i didn't know what to do and i didn't know how to go about dealing with the situation.
so whose fault is it?
you could point the finger at me and say that i should have checked my mirrors again and be really really certain before i changed to the right lane.
or, you could put the blame on him that he was speeding. and if he didn't speed, he could have stopped the car in time.
but either way, i don't care very much about who should take the blame already. i was very much afraid of my parents' reactions and the repair costs and all that. but they seemed to have taken the accident better than how i'm taking it now.
went to the traffic police headquarters this morning to give my statement and report. well, the investigation officer said that i probably would have to be charged for inconsiderate driving. which accounts to a fine of $200 and 9 demerit points. sigh.
but i really thank God for this accident even though it was a hard lesson learnt. if that guy didn't swerve his car to the other direction, i would have been badly injured.
